Cryptocoryne are fairly easy to manage in established tanks with constant water parameters. However, they can be sensitive to even slight changes in water parameters (Including carbon dioxide and fertilizer dosing) which can cause crypt melt. This often results in a complete die off of leaves from the plant, but if the root structure is left in tact, in time it will regrow. Cryptocoryne comes in a variety of colours including various shades of green, mohogany, and pink. Their light and carbon dioxide demands are low to moderate, however increases in these parameters will result in faster growth and more intense colouration. In their natural environment, most cryptocoryne species grow in relatively still waters along streams and lazy flowing rivers. They are nearly always found growing submerged when found naturally, but have the potential to be grow emersed in a very humid environment. These plants reproduce by producing offsets or runners that grow up around the base of the plant. When large enough, they can be separated from the parent plant and replanted elsewhere, or left to grow a bushy patch of plants. Though fairly uncommon, these plants will sometimes produce flower stocks that reach above the surface of the water.
